Next things to do

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

OK, time to take a step back and decide what I need to do next:

Come up with a new idea for my five-year plan (this is starting to feel like getting a good Ph.D. idea!)
Get the questionnaire with Bonnie on the Web (lots of stuff to do on this front, including deciding on the right […]

Work, work, work

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

I have a lot of things to do so I need to list them down and prioritize. By the way, this is a great technique for when you are overwhelmed and don’t know how to proceed. It really helps to take a step back and figure out what can wait and what needs to be […]

Delicious has got me confused

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Remember how I was complaining about Del.icio.us‘ new user interface? When I upload a URL at work, I can’t see my tags when I’m trying to tag. So I thought that they had removed suggestive tagging completely.
Apparently not. I uploaded a URL from home and on that machine, I have access to my tags and […]

Things to do for HCI 2008

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Call for train tickets (can we get them before we leave?) 2 to 3 days delivery - have submitted purchase order, awaiting response from them Ack! they changed my order and doubled the price. Have cancelled the order. Checking trains again.
Follow-up email on hotel booking (that’s the problem with online booking: you never know if […]

My conference plan

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Did I mention that our submission to CSCW 2008 got rejected but that our submission to HCI 2008 got accepted? To be honest, I had been expecting the exact opposite, so I had been planning to go to San Diego this autumn. On the other hand, I always was worried that the CSCW paper wasn’t […]

Paper submitted to HCI 2008

Monday, April 7th, 2008

And another paper submitted to another conference, this time to HCI 2008. Heh, I had better not tell André that this conference is held in Liverpool or he’ll insist that we go there and worship at all the Beatles monuments.
And now to go work on some more papers.

CHI no go

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

Our paper to CHI 2008 was refused. Sigh. I can’t seem to break the CHI barrier. We’re now talking about simply transforming it into a journal paper and see if we’d have more luck that way.
In the meantime, I am going to try to write a rebuttal.

Ancient history of tags

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I’m looking for references concerning the controversy that erupted when tags were becoming popular; the whole “a structured ontology is much better than anything mere users could come up with” vs. “tags are much better than anything that could be thought up in advance, take that, librarians!” convo that was going on a few years […]
