Gadget for videoconferencing

By sylvie | January 16, 2007

Not very useful if you’re videoconferencing with more than one person at a time (although I suppose you could move the images around), but for one-on-one conferences, SeeEye2Eye seems like a nice gadget to reintroduce eye contact in videoconferencing.

One of the major complaints with videoconferencing is the loss of eye contact, which is an important clue in face-to-face conversations to indicate who’s turn it is (among other things). This gadget might help re-establish this clue. Will it improve videoconferencing? My hypothesis is that it will make people more satisfied with it, but that it won’t have an impact on other tasks.

[…] I saw this on Population of One: an eye contact device for webcams. We already know that web conferencing is frustrating because of the lack of eye contact. We’ve known how to solve this problem for a while: just line up the camera lens with the other person’s picture, so when you look at them, they see you looking at them. This “SeeEye2Eye” webcam device is pretty clever because it uses mirrors to reflect the image on your computer’s screen to a position that is just behind your webcam, outside of the frame of your machine’s screen. I didn’t fully get it until I watched the introduction video, so I recommend watching it. The device costs $99. A pretty cool, easy fix to a real computer-mediated communication problem! […]

You could wear a bright green tee and key-out the color. It would make for one heck of an entertaining video conference.

That’s a good one, Shredders. I didn’t know we can crack jokes around here. Well, it sure does beat arguing which I have seen happen a lot of times in other blog sites.LOL

This video conferencing equipment, is there any chance that it could work with multiple participants? Because that, I say, would be very cool.

It would be too early to declare anything best for video conferencing. Lets wait when google launches the 3G mobiles which, as they claim, are best for the video conferencing. They are expected to start sales in the year 2008

mm interesting. Well it says it “lets you video chat“, but it still doesn’t specify whether you can actually HOST it.
