Talk on security
By sylvie | May 18, 2007
For Ottawa-Gatineau-based people:
Andrew Patrick is giving a presentation on Human Factors of Security Systems.
Users are often described as “the weakest link” in security systems. Rather than blaming users, this talk will focus on understanding the characteristics, limitations, goals, and tasks of users, and how security systems can be designed and operated using this knowledge. Topics to be covered include password management behaviors, phishing, Trojans, spyware, authentication, biometrics, and identity theft. The human behavior associated with each of these issues is examined, and technical issues and solutions are explored.
It will be held at the NRC (1200 Montreal Road, Building M-50, Auditorium) on Thursday the 24th from 10:30 to 12:00.
I saw a version of this presentation a few months ago and it was a very interesting talk that challenges the usual ‘users are to blame’ discourse that surrounds security issues. I highly recommend you attend this talk.
Oh, and if you can’t make it there, there is a webcast - see the above link to Andrew’s website for more information.
