Rock on, Ottawa-Gatineau!

We rented Guitar Hero III for the Wii (warning, web site plays gratuitous rock music) this weekend and I had a blast.

First off, I want to thank the makers of the game for including a tutorial in it. If you’ve ever rented a game, you know that they never give you the booklet (probably afraid that someone is going to lose it), so it can become a real pain trying to figure out how to play. But thanks to the tutorial, I was able to discover the GH3 game play in just a few minutes. Although I could have done without the silly patter from the two “guitar gods” teaching the basics.

So I spent Friday evening practicing the game. When I first mentioned to André that I wanted to play this game, he told me that he didn’t think he’d want to play it. Well, within a half hour of my first trying the game, in comes my husband to watch me play and then ask for his turn on the guitar controller. :)

Saturday I started the real game part and I managed to get about halfway through the game on easy mode before we had to return it. I really enjoyed myself, even though I suck big time.

But the real irony of all this is that I don’t like most of the songs that are included in the game. Didn’t like them when they first came out, still don’t like them now. Oh, there are a couple of the songs included that I do enjoy, but mostly it’s not my style of music. And yet I had fun playing the game. Weird, eh?

I found that when I was playing, I wasn’t paying attention to the song. Well, that’s not completely true, I do pay attention because I need to know the beat and when I’m supposed to be playing and what I’m supposed to be playing, but I’m not really listening to the song as a song. It just becomes part of the clues for game play.

By the way, here’s what happens when the Will it Blend guy discovers that his favourite band isn’t included in GH3.

Sarah told me we’d have difficulty finding the game and she was right. But apparently André was able to get his grubby mitts on a copy during lunch today.
