Google pulls the plug on Lively

Wow, that was quick. Google is shutting down its 3D world Lively. There is no explanation as to why they did so in their blog entry. Over at Mashable, there is some speculation that it might be because it wasn’t very popular or because Google didn’t like the fact that people were using it for sexual purposes. At Dusan Writer’s Metaverse, he notes that the service wasn’t very good to start with, something with which I concur. When I tried it out, I was disappointed by the small number of available avatars and the general difficulty of actually doing anything inside the world. I was never motivated to go back.

I guess sampling Lively is one less thing I have to feel guilty about not getting around to.
